Deborah is a technologist, entrepreneurial software engineer and business professional who holds an MSc in Computing (Software Engineering) from the Open University, and an accounting chartership from the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).
As a former IT Director and Finance Director, she has a broad array of business skills and experience – most recently in e-commerce and direct marketing – including:
• technology management and innovation
• digital and organisational transformation
• business software acquisition, design and development
• project and programme management
• data analytics and business intelligence
• regulatory compliance
• end-to-end financial management
This is complemented by senior management experience, functional and team leadership, and people management skills including the recruitment, training, mentoring and coaching of staff.
Deb holds a long-standing interest in technologies and how they innovate and disrupt. While often seen as positive for economic outcomes, it’s also important to understand the human impact technological disruption brings. A deep supporter of the government’s drive to increase science and technology skills, research and innovation in the UK, she would like to see this happen in socially responsible ways which support and empower equally.
As a committed lifelong learner, she is keen to play her part as a volunteer STEM Ambassador, inspiring and encouraging upcoming generations into STEM careers. As an autistic woman, she’s particularly interested in STEM career advocacy for women and girls, and for people on the autistic spectrum.
